About Our Servers
- Monitoring:
Servers are monitored in real time and their past state is logged. SNMP monitoring is set up from several locations around the world to our servers. Additionally, each server collects data about the services running on it (web, MySQL, FTP, mail, etc.), and reports to the monitoring system every minute. - Firewall:
Servers are protected with a firewall which detects and blocks common types of network attacks. IP addresses already known for malicious activity are blocked by this firewall as well. We use the mod_security Apache engine, which is a type of Web Application Firewall (WAF). - Security Patches:
All servers run a highly customized Debian Linux OS (stretch) and apply the latest security patches once they become available.
Tips for Securing Your Email & Website
- Logging In: Only login to your email/website on trusted devices. If you are on a public device be sure you are completely logged out and your login information was not stored on the computer.
- Strong Password: Choose a strong password & update it regularly.
- Avoid using common passwords like “password” or “abc123”.
- Avoid identical passwords across multiple services.
- Avoid passwords that a similar to the username or a sequential combination.
- Avoid passwords based on personal information that can be obtained online.
- Avoid passwords with a word with some letters replaced by special characters. Ex. p@ssw0rd
- Avoid simple word phrases combined with the current year. Ex. 2019pass or new2024
- Encrypted Connection: Connect to your Email over an Encrypted Connection
Our Webmail interface uses encryption by default (there is an option for this on the login screen).
If you use a stand-alone e-mail program, Click here for configuration instructions. - OS Updates: Keep your Computers Operation System (OS) up to date with the latest security updates.
- Antivirus Software: Run your antivirus scans regularly.
- Firewall: Run your devices behind a firewall.
- Disable Unused Services: Disable running services you are no longer using.
- Pirated Software: Avoid installing pirated software.
- Opening Files and Links: Avoid opening files or clicking on links your are uncertain about. Pay attention the URL of the link you are clicking on.
Can I have FTP Access to my site?
Providing full FTP access to edit the pages we built for you violates our company's confidentiality & copyright policies because the content management system is proprietary to Legend Web Works.
Why is there a Legend Web Works copyright on my site?
Because the code used to build your site & the content management tools is proprietary to Legend Web Works removing the copyright in the footer violates our company's confidentiality & copyright policies.
However we can add additional verbiage to the footer such as:
"© Copyright 2013 [your business name] | All artwork, photos, and designs included in this website are the exclusive property of [your business name], and may not be copied, reproduced, transferred or sold in whole or in part without the express written consent of [your business name]."
